Do You Know Why Your Kids Need To Eat 5 A Day?

We’re told often enough that we should be eating five portions of fruit and vegetables a day, but do you know why we need to do so? Do you know what benefits eating such produce could bring?

New research from Boots Kids Vitamins, reported on by Metro, suggests that many parents out there don’t really know or understand why five a day is essential for kids, with two-thirds having no idea what vitamins and minerals their little ones require.

Of the 2,000 parents surveyed, one in ten said they had no clue as to why five portions of fruit and veg a day was necessary, while a fifth weren’t sure how best to boost vitamin D levels. And over 15 per cent said they wanted more guidance on how to increase daily intake of vitamin C among children.

Commenting on the findings, company representative Parminder Kaur said: “Brits are more conscious than ever about what they put into their bodies. However, while sources like the internet have made lots of information available, there is also a lot of disinformation out there which can be hard to filter out.

“So, it’s not surprising there is confusion around how much we need of certain types of vitamins, or even where to get them from.”
